Product Overview
The All-Purpose Needle
Specially designed for Janome embroidery machines. Use for all embroidery projects and general sewing on most fabric types. This is a size 11 ball point needle which is designed with a longer scarf (indentation on the back allowing the hook to pass closely and form the stitch). The needle works well on light-medium weight knit fabrics and is the recommended needle for light to medium weight embroidery. Also it works well when quilting with polyester thread.
The Janome Blue Tip, a Janome exclusive, is our best "all-purpose" needle for both machine embroidery and general sewing on most types of fabrics. It has a unique design with a pierce point plus a slightly longer than normal scarf to cure skipped stitches and puckering in any problem fabric especially synthetics. This needle features an oversized eye to accommodate embroidery threads. It reduces stress and tension on the top thread and makes threading easier.
Blue Tip Needles are one of our most popular needles for machine embroidery and light to medium weight stretch fabrics. Blue Tip needles have a ballpoint tip, so that when stitching with light fabrics like organza, there is less tendency for both the fabric fibres and embroidery stitches to break down.

Needle types come in an assortment of sizes, choose the needle size for the weight of fabric and weight of thread. Use the chart below as a guide:
*Keep an assortment of needles on hand to make it easy to choose the appropriate needle for each project.
Shaft, Scarf, what is that?
All Janome compatible needles will be the same shape at the shank to sit into the needle clamp – make sure the flat side faces away from you. All needles will be the same length so as not to interfere with the way your machine hook forms the stitch. It is only the size of the shaft and the shape of the tip that determines how your sewing experience differs. Such a small thing can make a huge difference!
So don’t settle for cheap generic needles – their quality and effectiveness can cost you more than their price tag. Use Genuine Janome Sewing Machine Needles to get the best sewing experience.
Troubleshooting:
- If the thread is breaking or shredding, go up one needle size or try a Top Stitch needle.
- If the stitches are skipping, change the type of needle point, i.e. Ball Point or Sharp.
- If the thread is bouncing, go down one size.
- Check the needle plate, bobbin case and hook often. Any small imperfections may snag the thread as it passes and cause breakage.
- Clean the machine often.
